Whale watching if you can swing it. The dolphins swim right along side the boat, your girls will love it.

I used to live there...
They have a little carnival down on balboa island, get a balboa bar w/nuts. At the same place you can get the frozen bananas (you know, like on arrested development).
Tk burger is a good little dive fast food place.
And you must go to Mahe, Im not sure if you can swing it with the girls but maybe if you can sneak away on a date. It's a little sushi restaurant/bar in Huntington, order the pu pu platter. It's not on the menu, but they'll know what you mean. Its a mix of all their best fusion sushi... So good! It has tropical fruit in the sushi. I think you need a reservation.

That's just a few things off the top of my head.

If you haven't been to The Hat you haven't lived. I go there first when in SoCal- BEFORE in n out! In fact, I even flew into the Ontario airport for a conference last month simply because it was closer to the Hat. Get the Hot Pastrami. You will not regret it. It may be a little drive but sooo worth it.

You will thank me :)

Well since you have girls you have to shop. My favorite there is South Coast Plaza, and fashion island. I agree on the Balboa Island. Very Coronado in feel. Also there is catalina island. You can catch a ferry at dana point. And if you want disney stuff disneyland is just a few minutes away.

I am going there this month I can't wait. Thankfully no kids with me. :)

I have been to that exact location in that picture almost every year of my life. Thats where my parents are from. It's "Pirates Cove" next to Big Corona Beach in Corona Del Mar (CDM). There is a really great little restaurant right by the Albertsons in CDM called "La Fogata". It's a favorite with the Locals there. We always go to the Gina's pizza next door after a day at the beach.
YES you MUST get a balboa bar. On Balboa Island. Your thighs will thank me.
With chocolate sprinkles. Take the Catalina Flyer from the island by the fun zone out to Catalina Island.

If you go to big beach in CDM, they have fire pits there and you can go roast wieners and marshmallows if you're feeling really festive. Also, sit on the kiss bench that says "DONATED FOR GEZA AND MARGARET KISS". Thats my great grandparents - and yes - KISS really was their last name...
HAVE FUN! That place is where my heart is.

I'm a frequent lurker. :) My husband and I are in Newport often and we just found our favorite restaurant of all time. It's called BANDERA'S...best banana cream pie you'll eat in your life. I highly recommend the artichoke appetizer (all the chips & queso) - - the chicken enchiladas are also to die for. It has a SW gourmet spin....SO good. Hope I'm not too late. It's right on the Pacific Coast Hwy (I think right in Corona Del Mar) - - just minutes from Newport.

Ah snap! I hit up Laguna and not Newport when I was down there. Otherwise I would know what dive to point you towards....
