we just received my 2nd emergency room bill:
we were there for 6 hours that night in the e.r. in a ghetto room with a scratchy blanket. they did EXACTLY 4 things:
1. put me in a bed
2. put in an iv, drew blood
3. had the dr. come in
4. gave me 2 shots of morphine in the iv, pulled it out
now, i'd like to state for the record that i am grateful that we have insurance. it's not great insurance--i'd say it's medium insurance, but insurance all the same.
what chaps my hide about this is that i can guaranfreakingtee you that we will come out of pocket no less than $800.00 for this.
this is what's wrong with america.

bummer!
Ok, you freakin crack me up! That picture is awesome and I'm sure you looked just like that! Boy, they were quick to get that little puppy to you!
True dat girl!!
THe cost of medical care is outrageous, but I think it has to be to cover the malpractice insurance because of all the sue-happy people out there.
Ridiculous!
Oh yeah, I just got a bill for a shot I got in June, I think they waited until I had taken all of the shots on the prescription (three of them)before sending that one on purpose!
P.S. I just read Holly's blog note from you. If you go to see the Police in Denver in September, let me know...we can meet up!
So Sorry for you! 2 yrs ago my Hubby went to the ER in the early AM hours with his one & only Kidney Stone. We were there maybe 3 hours total. We got billed & charged the full amount(morphine too mind you) $1100- smackers. We faught it as far as we felt we could on the principle that it was not our fault that the ER was the ONLY available facility at 3 am. Had he known the charge would have been so high my husband sais he would have sucked it up & waited until 8 am to go to a DR. office & pay a Freekin' $15- Co-Pay. We ended up paying the blasted bill & curse it ever since. Oh, did I mention that 6 months earlier I had a baby W/O maternity Ins. & Galbladder surg. myself! Yea, that year of medical stunk for sure!.....Holy long post Batman.
Oh I know, husband is on rebound from Cancer, don't even get me started!!!!!
Have you watched the movie "sicko" yet? While Michael Moore is a little over the top, he sheds a lot of light on our currect insurance/medical situation. We need to ban together and go make that face at some politicians somewhere to start makin' a change...
I love the fact that you titled the bill "Holy Shiz."
Also, I feel your pain!
Thanks for leaving a sweet comment! I'm still playing with mine--but I do love your blog! :-) Christie above is right--we all pay for the jerks who sue Doctors/hospitals and the jerkier lawyers who represent them.
My hubby is a pharmacist at our local hospital. And yes, they screw you when it comes to drugs. If you only knew what it cost to buy them and then what they charge us poor saps when we are sitting there in pain begging for more drugs.
Nothin' like a huge hospital bill to make you feel worse than you did when you went in! We are in between insurance for a couple of weeks right now and I am so hoping and praying that no one breaks their arm or even gets sick.
You better stop saying Whiskey Tango Foxtrot because it is catchy and starting to get stuck in my head. And one of these days I'm going to shout it out in front of someone who will know what it means and who also shouldn't hear me saying even an abbreviated and disguised version of that phrase. Like my weirdo home teachers when they stop by unannounced. Or my bishop when he asks me to come see him for a new calling. Stop it!
Did you know that they charge 20 bucks to use a heating pad! Highway robbery I tell ya!
I am always shocked when we get a bill from the doctor or the hospital. Seriously expensive stuff...
They are certainly giving it to you right up the ole "bleep, bleep"!! You need another shot of morphine just to open up the dang bill.
yeeeOUCH!
And you didn't even get a kiss with that one. Next time just don't go to the hospital like I am trying not to do until I have enough money to get something put in the same time I am having my gallbladder taken outl
Did they send any ky with the bill?
Funny - we are lamenting the same thing. Not YOUR hospital bill - but our own.
Sorry I have been slacking on the love- I normally provide it (in comment form - not oxycontin form) and I have been slacking. It has been a week. To put it mildly.
I am so sorry and I totally feel for you. I went to the emergency room for a kidney stone last year and came out with a $1300 bill, sadly I didn't even get the good drugs because I was pregnant.
oh man that sucks. IN my ER it's 300.oo just to walk in the joint. And you see little ol' me. Not even the DR yet.
Word.
I hope you had a prior balance of about $250, otherwise, their math is wrong!! =) I'm sorry your bill sucks. =(
First off, HATE insurance. I am pretty sure I paid more for my baby than any of my siblings because I actually HAVE insurance! I hate it.
Second, glad you didn't go buy some street drugs. Just spent last night visiting my bro-in-law in jail for popping pills.
Ah, but look at all the blog material it gave you!
;)
a-holes.
I work for the mother ship involved in your care AND also for the lame-a insurance they offer....
Do you think they give a break to those who provide for them?
Uh, no.
Sorry about the bill and the ER visit. Are you feeling better?
nothing makes me more mad than outrageous bills from the stupid doctors! Thank the Lord for our insurance because without it we would be bankrupt!!
