chandler clove is a dollar store diva and i loved watching it go down

after my trip to the dollar store the other day with chandler, i'm guessing the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

you would have thought it was christmas morning for chandi when i told her she could go with me and take a few dollars. i know this child, and there is nothing she likes better to do than to spend her money on USELESS CRAP. which is exactly how i used to be, & is the reason why i know her game so well.....

we got there and i found what i was looking for and had it up to the front within 4 minutes. which did not give her ENOUGH TIME!! JUST A FEW SECONDS MORE........MUST. BUY. CHEAP. CARNIVAL. TOY.

i called to her and she ran over, panicked. "mom! you didn't say you'd be so fast! i'm not done yet!" i said, "chandi, you have until the lady in front of me finishes ringing up her purchase, then it's game over."

she ran a few aisles away, and i swear i could hear her hyperventilating--what to buy? she couldn't leave with money in her pocket....that would be massive failure. i knew exactly what she was doing--she was searching for something, ANYTHING, to purchase, and it didn't matter if she wanted it or not at this point. that money was burning a hole right through her pocket.

in about 60 seconds she ran back, breathing heavily, and i am fairly sure she had a thin layer of anxious sweat across her upper lip. i rolled my eyes and let her get in line with me, but she wouldn't let me look at what she had in the basket. so i knew it had to be something really heinous.

i wasn't wrong.

(that's a crystal block with a 3-d hologram of a vase of flowers, btw. classy.)

any bets on how long it will be until you see these items for sale at the d.i.??

My son bought a fake Rubik's cube at the dollar store last week. Less than 30 minutes after we had been home, I tripped over it and it promptly fell apart. And then he fell apart. Poor, sad little boy with his poor, sad little cheap toy.

that is hilarious! My daughters are so much like that. One of them actually received one of those weird-o holograph things for a birthday present once and she thought for sure that it meant the kid who gave it to her must be wealthy beyond anybody's wildest dreams. It made me laugh. I'm pretty sure she still has it locked away somewhere even thougth she's 14 now.

Classic! I love what they come up with when they just HAVE to spend some money.
Super cute story.

Two things--I'm that girl with the money burning a hole in her pocket. I just can't keep cold hard cash on my person for more than a minute.
My Ashley is the Queen of Indecision--if I take her to the dollar store, she will for real, spend an hour trying to decide what to get for her one dolla'! Drives. me. up. the. wall!

I was the same way.

How can you NOT hyperventilate when you enter the dollar store? I mean, everything is a dollar! ONE. It reminds me of that Grey's Anatomy episode where Yang goes on a random shopping spree at the dollar store...
anyone?

I must admit, I too am addicted to the dollar store. I try not to take many trips there, unless I really need something that they have (gift bags, plastic tablecloths, mailing labels, etc.). Believe it or not, they do have some useful stuff there! However, before Todd and I got married, I bought a house. He moved down here and we needed a few things to get it going. Yes, I know that Dollar Store stuff is not high quality, but we still left that store after spending about $75. Yes, we got cleaners (that don't really clean), a broom (that doesn't really sweep) and various other items that don't really do what they are supposed to. But I have to say, I was thankful to have the dollar store that day. We got by and still have some of our dollar store finds from that first day!

that dollar store is horrible. It sucks you in and makes you feel like you have to buy that stuff because after all "it's only a dollar!"... but it is sad to know it is doing it to the youth!! Who am I kidding that story is hilarious actually.

My kids love the dollar store too.

You would be surprised at how many things you can find there for home decorating projects!

I remember stealing my sisters change and going to yard sales so I could round up some meaningless garbage to put in my room. My sisters and mom would all gross out so bad that my treasures would all be disposed of.
SAD.

On a lighter note, your daughter is showing some serious talent in the industry!

Mindi, your blog is so entertaining, and so...YOU! It's been great catching up with you after all these years. On the subject of buying useless crap, I remember your bedroom closet being the most packed full of any closet I knew. Not that clothes and shoes are useless crap, of course not! Tell Russ hi for me! Oh, I have a blog too. It's more for family history purposes than anything...not so entertaining. But feel free to catch up with us! fillmoreflash.blogspot.com.
Love ya,
Heather

Funny! This summer, I told my kids that if they read for an hour a day I would give them each a dollar to spend at the dollar store on Friday. It never ceased to amaze me that they were so willing (excited even) to throw at least 7 hours of their week into a book in exchange for a cheap toy that would break before the next Friday.

I totally know who to ask to do my shopping for me the next time I need a gift.

Our daughters are related long lost distant cousins 3rd removed. MY daughter does this also. 5 dollars burns a hole in her pocket. I swear.

Are we talking "Dollar General" or "Dollar Tree"? I only like the everything for a dollar stores. If I expect something to cost one dollar, anything above seems like a rip.

Am I still talking about this?

That is hilarious! I am laughing so hard!

As long as it takes for them to be buried in her room, and then uncovered in a mass clean up?

Hence the reason I almost vehemently refuse to carry cash!

I never got to experience the joys of the Dollar Store as a child. I consider you MOther of The YEAR for taking your little girl there.
