i {heart} carbs

so i've been on a fairly restrictive diet and i've come to one conclusion, and ONE CONCLUSION ONLY: carbs make my world go 'round.

everything that i crave, unfortunately, falls into the "naughty/NO NO NO/BAD GIRL" carb category--chips, mexican food, cookies, brownies, sweet rolls, pizza, cheetos etc. hell, at one point i was ready to sell one of my kidneys for a freaking bowl of frosted flakes.

what frustrates me is the fact that i've never been motivated by good, healthy foods that are for the sole purpose of fueling my body. i would bypass a really good piece of fruit for a single reese's peanut butter cup. (okay, i lie: TWO.) and i've always been of the opinion that lettuce is for rabbits and garnish, not for consumption. but, on the other hand, i feel strongly that carbs should be incorporated into every single meal. nay, BITE, if possible.

what the last couple of months how told me, however, is that this love affair is strictly one-sided. carbs simply just don't love me back.

by cutting back on the amount that seemed to find their way into my mouth, i was able to drop more than twenty pounds. (with some other help. but mindi doesn't want to start ww3 today--that's for another time.)

i was surprised that it worked. i've never gone without to this degree before, so i refused to believe in my heart that it would actually work. i couldn't bear my blogimony of restricted carb intake. because then i would ACTUALLY HAVE TO RESTRICT MY CARB INTAKE.

so what i want to know is, how do i maintain my relationship with carbs without making it feel neglected? and i am NOT the girl, btw, who says, "i'll just never eat carbs again." because life wouldn't be worth living.

DIET is always gonna be a 4-letter word in my book.

I am not the one to ask.

Promise.

But you do look smoking hot.

My prob is sweets and fried foods. I had to cut those. In order not to feel deprived I let myself eat one sweet (that's like six oreos, not an entire bag) and one fried food each week.

I lack the will power to do this on my own so I seriously have to promise God that I'll be good, because I know He'll be watching. It's quite pathetic that those are the lengths I have to go to.

Did you do HCG? Huh? Didja? I'm cool with anything that works.

I have to be really extreme too, because one little slip sends me on a big time spiral. Ugh, eating healthy stinks :)

I'm not a good one to ask -- I have a sign that says "Money talks but chocolate sings" in my office if that tells you anything.

Just wanted to say congrats on the 20 lbs & good luck keeping it off!

Huh, I remember my husband saying "just go eat something!" Apparently I was being very cranky. I think it was the same time that I was having racy dreams about chocolate cake.

I'm in the same boat. I love me some carbs! Okay, all of them.

My secret, when I'm on that kick, Sugar-free jello with homemade whipped cream (add your favorite sugar substitute). I saves my day!

Mmmmm Lemon Jello......

That, and I have a great recipie for stir-fry.

I was going to ask what you have been doing, you do look great! While you have been going down, I have been going up, but I am going to do so much better starting today. Thanks for the motivation.

ps. My post today is probably not helping you in any way.

1. You are SMOKIN hot! Keep up the good work!
2. Since I heart carbs too, I am a baaaaad one to ask.
I too would substitute a bag of chips versus something healthy as long as it stayed in my calorie count.

When you get the solution - do share with the rest of the class

PROTEIN is the key...get your protein in and then you can have your carbs...in MODERATION! LOL

When I had Weight Loss Surgery we learn to eat 70% protein / 30% vegetables and NO carbs for the first year at least. We eventually incorporate the "good" carbs back in but not for a while and very much in moderation.

Congrats on your weight loss! WLS has been quite a journey for me and I know how great it feels to lose some of those extra LBS's!

I live in an almost carbfree world (had gastric bypass a year ago and have lost 153lbs)...

it's doable.

it's healthy.

once you rid yourself of the carbs (white bread, potatoes, pasta, rice... alllllll of the good stuff) your body stops craving them and start craving the other good stuff... protein, vitamins, etc.

i think starting by cutting back is key... dont go cold turkey, take steps towards it.

:)

just my $.02

I'm a "all in moderation" kind of girl. As soon as you eliminate something completely, that is what you will crave. Get away from the strict prohibitions that lead to binging and build in some wiggle room. The best thing to do is find healthy snacks you like. I used to hate salads until I took charge and figured out which salads I like (only spinach or romaine lettuce - no iceberg). Vary the fruits and veggies you are eating. I'm a fan of carrots or snap peas with hummus. I also add a wheat tortilla to the mix because I believe carbs are not the #1 enemy but it is good to stick with whole grain carbs. Another good snack is rice cakes with peanut butter. Don't laugh but the crunch of the rice cake combined with the protein and flavor of PB are very satisfying (I'd recommend natural PB though with no trans fat). Add a glass of skim milk and you have added some healthy dairy. Also, allow yourself a couple of squares of dark chocolate each night as a snack. Splurge on the really tasty kind and savor it instead of gobbling it down. Just a few tips I've been using lately.
Congrats on the 20 pound loss! Very impressive.

I thought your post was titled I love crabs. I was all excited to run out and buy some crab to lose weight. I don't know a carb from a crab...so that probably explains my problem. Is eating an avacado a day good? It tastes good!

Oh man, are you a girl after my own heart. When everyone was doing Atkins, I just shook my head and rolled my eyes. there is NO WAY I could ever do that. why would I want to live??? But since sweets and meal carbs (pasta, potatoes, etc.) are my love and my downfall, I also have to do some form of restriction to keep from getting huge. so I go off sweets completely when I'm hardcore dieting (but I limit the time frame to, say, 1 month or 2 months, not forever) just until I can break the sugar addiction. And then for meal carbs, 1/2 cup per meal is all I get. (1 cup of it's the main dish, like a pasta dish). After I lose the needed weight, my maintanance program for meal carbs goes up by 50% and my sweets quotient is one treat a day. Not like 1 cookie. But like once a day I can indulge. (And that's cutting down from the 4x a day I WANT to indulge).

Does that help at all???

I could've written this post myself. I'm looking to you, Vanessa and Amy for guidance since you're all farther on this diet than me. Just please tell me we can eat some carbs again eventually.

{I'm doing an apple day today. fun times}

First of all, you look amazing. Amazing.

I came back to read all the comments. Lots of good ideas.

I love carbs. I have nothing helpful to add. I doodle about carbs during math class and write Mrs. Tiffany Carbs over and over again.

Well...
They asked me to speak in church.
On fast sunday.
When there were like a bazillion baby blessings, and the chapel was all the way back the gym.
I lost about five pounds that week.

Probably not the diet tip you were looking for.
